What is a Registry?
The Windows registry is a database of all configuration settings in Microsoft Windows 95, 98, Windows NT 4, Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows Server 2003. It’s a database repository for information about your computer's configuration. Naturally, it keeps on getting bigger with the use of Windows operating system.
As it grows, it attracts and unnecessary information which leads to clutter and fragmentation. That, in turn, slows down the performance of your entire system and causes many unexpected problems. If you want to check on your registry, you can use Registry Mechanic from pc Tools. It’s a great product.
